Long Beach Recreation Dog Park - Long Beach
5201 East 7th Street at Park Long Beach, CA 90804The film "Must Love Dogs" was shot on location at Recreation Dog Park. The movie, which stars Diane Lane and John Cusack as a couple who meet at a dog park, contains two sizable scenes that were shot at the west end of our nearly 2-acre park.

Long Beach Recreation Dog Park - Long Beach offers the following products and/or services:
» Dog Parks (168)The entire park, which is about 1 3/4 acres, is enclosed with a 5-foot, chain-link fence.There are four sets of double gates -- a separate entrance and exit from the main park at the east end, the entrance to the small-dog park (see below) and set of gates at the far west end.
These general rules are portions of the City Code that pertain to the Dog Park:
1. Pick up after your dog and dispose of waste in the containers.
2. Dogs older than 4 months old must be vaccinated and licensed to use the facility. Puppies younger than 4 months are not permitted in the enclosure for their and other dogs' protection.
3. Owners of any dog using the facility must have a leash available at any time for use outside the fenced area.
4. No aggressive dogs. Dog owners are legally responsible for any injury caused by their dog.
5. Professional dog handlers are not permitted to use the facility in the conduct of their business.
6. No female dogs in heat.
7. No spiked collars on dogs -- they can injure other dogs when they play.
8. No food of any kind.
9. Dogs cannot be left unattended.
10. Children in the exercise area must be supervised by adults.
11. Children are not permitted to run, shout, scream or wave their arms or otherwise excite or antagonize dogs in the exercise areas.
12. No bicycles, roller blades, roller skates, skateboards and strollers in the exercise area. Exception: wheelchairs.
13. No sports--football, volleyball etc.--are permitted.
14. Use of the dog exercise area by any dog shall constitute implied consent of the dog's owner to all the above rules and guidelines as well as parking regulations.
Locations
The Dog Park is at 5201 East 7th St. and relatively close to the San Diego, San Gabriel River and Garden Grove freeways. If you are:
-- southbound on the San Diego Freeway (I-405): Exit Bellflower Boulevard south. About a mile and a half you'll come to 7th Street where you'll want to turn right. Cross Pacific Coast Highway and head down the hill. At the bottom you'll find the entrance to the Dog Park on your right.
-- northbound on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) or westbound on the Garden Grove Freeway (22): Take the 7th Street exit into Long Beach, where you'll pass the state university and the Veterans Hospital. Cross Pacific Coast Highway and head down the hill. At the bottom you'll find the entrance to the Dog Park on your right.
-- southbound on the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605): Take the 7th Street exit into Long Beach, where you'll pass the state university and the Veterans Hospital. Cross Pacific Coast Highway and head down the hill. At the bottom you'll find the entrance to the Dog Park on your right.
